Open enrollment closes soon. Here is what you need to know about plan changes, deadlines, and how to avoid common mistakes.
The December 7 deadline
Medicare Annual Enrollment Period ends December 7. If you have not reviewed your plan, now is the time. Changes made during AEP take effect January 1. Missing the deadline means waiting until next fall unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
What you can still change
Until December 7, you can switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage, change Advantage plans, or return to Original Medicare. You can also add, drop, or change Part D prescription drug plans. Each choice affects your coverage and costs for the full year.
Common mistakes to avoid
Many people assume their current plan is still the best option. But plans change every year. Check if your doctors, medications, and pharmacies are still in network. Compare premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums. A few minutes of review can save thousands.
